Watery Promotion for "The Brink of Law"

TVB will begin airing new series "The Brink of Law" on Monday and a promotional event was held at a hotel swimming pool yesterday morning, attended by cast members including Steven Ma, Ron Ng, Shirley Yeung, Sherming Yiu, June Chan, Karen Lee, Yoyo Chan and Kenneth Ma. Ron arrived 45 minutes late and was first to be pushed into the pool as a punishment by the girls, whilst producer Mui Siu Ching said to him on the microphone: "Don't be late next time!" Afterwards, Ron said that Siu Ching was right and he knows what he did was wrong. He says: "Sorry, I feel bad because I set my alarm wrong. The event started at 11am, but I set the alarm to go off at 11:30."

Although it was quite cold yesterday, the pool was heated, so the girls all appeared in their swimsuits and showed off their figures in the water. Shirley's costume was quite conservative though and she says this is because they have to play games so she had to avoid exposing herself, so she chose a sportier swimsuit. As a result, with their better figures, Sherming, June and Karen stole most of the limelight in their bikinis. Shirley said graciously: "It doesn't matter, it is all just for the promotion. (Does your boyfriend not like you looking sexy?) Of course not! The most important thing was not to expose myself during the games." Shirley had to rush off to another event afterwards, so she was keeping a close guard on her hairstyle during the games and avoiding getting it wet.

Kenneth appeared wearing two pairs of shorts, cycling and beach shorts and he smiles: "It doesn't really matter what the men wear, we are all just here to see the ladies." As he does not know how to swim, he was just concerned about not getting embarrassed and not drowning and therefore he did not mind not winning the games. He smiles: "I play football, but I won't find love doing that, so I want to start playing badminton instead! (Is your new year wish to look for a girlfriend?) No, making money still comes first. When I sort myself out, then it will be easier."

Steven also appeared in his cycling shorts and did not wear any swimming trunks. He says that since he was young, he usually wears shorts because he says his bum looks too good and when he wears cycling shorts then other people get jealous. Asked if he would wear trunks to do a fashion show, he says: "You would have to give me time to get fit and a large six-figure sum as a fee because it would be my first time. I was approached by a thermal underwear company from the mainland earlier, but underwear is a little too close fitting, so I turned it down." If the ratings are good for "Brink" will you wear some small trunks? He says: "I am very miserly when it comes to these things. Give me more money because I am guarding my first time. When the right situation arises and the reward is right, then I will give my debut performance."

Steven also says that each time a new series is released, then people will pledge to appear in swimwear, but this rarely materialises. He finds this a little boring so promising a big meal is more practical. What would be a suitable rating for the first week? He says: "I hope for above thirty, because the ratings for 'Dicey Business' were not bad and we should be able to follow them."

"The Brink of Law" Promotion

TVB's new series "The Brink of Law" will begin airing next Monday after the end of "Dicey Business". As this show deals with combatting illegal gambling on horses, a group of cast members took part in a promotional event at the Shatin Racecourse and those present included Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, Kate Tsui, Michelle Yim, Ron Ng and Kenneth Ma. As well as playing games, the stars also posed for photographs with the horses. However, they were not very co-operative, losing his temper and leaving droppings everywhere, so there was a lot of waiting around before they could successfully complete the photographs. During the shooting game, Steven accidentally aimed the gun at the floor, dropping all the pellets and causing everyone to laugh at him. Ron was blindfolded for his shot and this frightened everyone into running away.

Steven appeared wearing a smart suit and he smiles that he only realised yesterday that he only had one tie at home that he has worn before, so he had no choice but to wear it again. This is Steven's first show to be aired after winning an award at last year's Anniversary awards and he feels that this series has given him the chance to work with many new faces and will help him create some new chemistry.

Steven points out that in the show he plays brothers with Kenneth Ma and they are both referred to as 'Ma Jai' as a nickname. There is also a crew member from props who is called 'Ma Jai', so there are three of them. Originally, the crew had decided to refer to Steven as 'Siu Ma Gor', but he felt that this was rather sensitive, so in the end, they decided on calling Steven 'Ma Jai', Kenneth 'Ma Ming' and the crew member 'Ma Ye'.

There were reports yesterday that Steven was forcefully pushing himself into photographs with an old granny. To this he responds: "I am innocent!" He explains that the granny had asked him earlier to have his photo taken with her, but because she stood away, he ran up to her to avoid her coming back, so it was all a misunderstanding. With these reports already so early on into 2007, Steven says: "I don't mind, it shows my attraction. At first, I was a bit shocked that they were reporting about an old lady, but I don't really mind about reports like this."

Ron had earlier been linked with Toby Leung in rumours during the filming for "Men in Pain" and with the news breaking that he had spent New Years Eve celebrating with her and Raymond Lam in a bar, then of course the press questioned him about this. He says: "Raymond Lam was also there that night and a male artiste from the mainland artiste who is wokring with us in 'The Drive of Life'. We openly allowed the press to take photographs." He says that Toby also had other friends in the bar and as they played lovers in 'Men in Pain' and again in 'The Drive of Life', then they are good friends.

Asked if he is interested in courting her, he smiles: "No, she is an executive's daughter! (Are you not brave enough to pursue?) No, we are just friends." There were also reports that he and Raymond were drunk on that night and only left the bar at 11am the next day. Ron syas that it was their friend who was drunk and they waited together for him to wake up before leaving together. Of course they also drank, because having a little alcohol on New Years Eve is no problem.

So does going to a bar with Raymond make him a big hit with the girls? He syas that there were a lot of other friends there. Asked who he hugged after the countdown, he says that he was taking part in the countdown in Yuen Long and then he hugged Raymond. Asked if he would like to regain some popularity with "The Brink of Law", he played along and says: "Yes I want to spring back."

Bernice was born in the year of the horse, so she has always loved horses. When she was younger, she once told her mother not to have a pet dog any more and keep a pet horse instead, laughing that it could live under her bed. she says that Michelle did take her to the racecourse to experience it before and she realised that people in Hong Kong own horses to race, but if she was to own a horse, then she would keep in the grassy fields of Canada. Talking of her role in this new series, Bernice says that it is a new trial for her because as well as being slapped by Michelle, she is also hit by Eliott Yue.

Kate was dressed in a short skirt, revealing her rather thick legs. She says that she has been working on losing weight and has already reduced a lot of water mass. She has recently been introduced by a friend for a detox treatment that has reduced her water retention and now she has to depend on machines to help her slim the bottom half of her body. However, this is quite expensive, so she has to work hard to make money to stay beautiful. She also says that when she was filming for "On the First Beat" (aka 'Cadets on the Beat') she was like a tomboy so she lost interest in making herself up. Now she is filming for "The Entire City Dances" and has the chance to wear pretty clothing again, so she is starting to concentrate on her appearance again.

Recently the fortune tellers have said that Shirley has good luck this year and a chance of getting married in 2007. She smiles that she is happy to hear that she will have good luck, but she will not be getting married so soon. She says: "Unless it is a lightning marriage, but I don't think so. (What if there was a third person?) What? A dog? No. I like my job at the moment." She says that she has dated her boyfriend for several years and it is fashionable to have a long marathon of love, but she does intend to have children after she gets married. Shirley indicates that usually she does not dare to have her fortune read because it is ok if they say something good, but if they say something bad, then it will leave a shadow.

Shirley Yeung Did Not Have a Romantic New Year

Shirley Yeung, Ron Ng and Jolie Chan took part in the Yuen Long New Years celebrations, attracting a crowd of around three hundred people. Usually unafraid of talking about her romances, Shirley seemed to have a change of heart yesterday and when asked if will see in the new year with her boyfriend, she says: "I don't know. I will be dining with my family. (How about your boyfriend?) Maybe he will have to be with his family." After saying this, she adds that she is pleased that she is not filming this year over the festive season, so she can take on external shows and make some extra money.

As for Jolie, who even brought her own party hat, she says that in the new year, she hopes to further her career in music, TV and film, but she would also like to get married in the next few years: "Age 25 is like a checkpoint, I don't want to keep floating around. I plan to get married after I am 30, so I have to work hard in my work for the next six years." She also reveals that she sees Maggie Cheung Man Yuk as her target and she will watch 100 films a day to perfect her acting.

Ron Ng & Shirley Yeung @ New York

Ron Ng and Shirley Yeung were in New York this Christmas to make money doing a stage performance; they were invited to be the performing guests at a promotional function held by a cosmetic centre. Due to the tight schedule, they immediately went to their performance site for a last practice for the show held the next day, after their arrival at noon. Although it’s the first time going to New York for the both of them, the atmosphere created by the audience was great and “encore” was even requested a few times. Both of them performed 4 songs and successfully finished all their performances; Ron even had the chance to a “friendly competition” with a male dancer there and even became friends, making an appointment at New York in May to learn off of him. As for Shirley, she went shopping after the show.

After the performance, they both had an hour of free time where Shirley immediately went shopping and spent a 5-digit amount to buy Christmas presents for her friends and family, as well as choosing over 10 pairs of shoes for herself, complimenting it’s nice and cheap/inexpensive. Ron though, didn’t get too much and only did some window shopping. After the shopping, although it was already dark and they were tired, they still chose to go around for a car ride and went to Times Square, being able to see the grandness and the atmosphere of a holiday.

Towards this trip to New York, both of them thought it was spent well and happily, taking work like entertainment. But Shirley is still slightly disappointed because she was unable to personally see the scenery when it is snowing. And Ron had always wished for a tour around New York and this time it’s finally granted; the most important though, is being able to see the fans that have supported him for years and he hopes there would be another chance for him to go around and shop more.

Shirley Yeung Captures the Crowds

Shirley Yeung's popularity has shot up after signing for a slimming company and at a 'Snap Shot' promotion earlier, the contestants were all crowding around to check out her 34C-23-33 figure and young girls were eager to ask for her advice on beauty and figure enhancement.

In Shirley's latest set of ads, she appears in a little blue top and a super-mini skirt, looking sexy but healthy. The focus of the ads is on her beautiful legs and asked if she is happy with them, she says: "In the past, I was like the majority of girls, feeling their lower body was bloated and heavy and thinking I was fat, but unable to lose it no matter what was tried, especially around the hips and thighs. Now after doing this job, I realise that this is due to water retention and not fat."

Shirley's image consultant has emphasised the focus on her legs by choosing a rather conservative top for her, giving a slightly suggestive feeling and encouraging people to take a second look. Asked what advice she has for people, Shirley replies: "This season it is all about focusing on yourself. Choosing out the area that is the problem and finding the best solution for it. So if you want to lose fat, then you should choose the best product to use specifically for this."

Shirley Yeung spokesperson for slimming product

Shirley Yeung has recently become spokesperson for slimming company and yesterday, she was at a promotional event in Causeway Bay, where she appeared in a low cut top and a mini skirt, attracting a mainly male audience. As the road was rather narrow and stuffed full of press, there was some confusion and the police had to be called to maintain the order and send away some people, delaying the event by some 35 minutes, but Shirley's appearance was welcomed by the audience.

Yesterday was also Shirley's 26th birthday and the organisers had arranged a birthday cake for her as they MC's led the audience in singing 'Happy Birthday' to her and making her very happy. However, as her clothes were too sexy, there was an embarrassing incident at one point when she stood in a draught whilst being escorted in by security and her skirt was blown up, revealing her shorts underneath and leaving her scrabbling to push down her skirt.

Shirley says that after using this product, she has enhanced her breasts and her weight has returned to what she was at when she entered for Miss Hong Kong. When asked whether she felt embarrassed dressed so sexily in the streets, she says: "This is actually a sporty healthy look today, I can accept this." As for whether she can accept a bikini, she says that she will never wear a bikini in the street. Shirley was very touched that so many people sung a birthday song for her and said: "I have already received many presents this year, including my boyfriend's that was bought from America - a special edition watch." She also says that she had a celebration with her fans the night before and her birthday wish is for good health and a successful career.

Shirley Yeung in Sexy Clothes Caused Chaos

Shirley Yeung appeared in a sexy outfit consisting of a mini skirt and a bra top, yesterday at a shopping centre which causedchaos. This is because she is the spokesperson for a health food shop. Shirley attracted approximately 300 people. Side watchers ate icy poles while watching Shirley in sexy and revealing clothes. During the function, some men went on the escalator, their gazes fell on the top half the Shirley’s body. Some people specially brought along high zoom cameras to take pictures. Under the protection of guards, Shirley walked into the crowd to advertise the health products.

Shirley did not mind what the people were doing; she said that her image is very healthy and that there was a safety procedure so she did not worry about revealing anything unwanted. There were some men who were staring at her chest for the whole function but Shirley assured the reporters that they were looking at her whole body and not just at her chest. Shirley also said that the people taking pictures of her, were only admiring her and not because of some other reason.

Shirley Yeung Wins International TV Award

Earlier, Shirley Yeung Si Kei had acted in a special series sponsored by the Women's Commission in Hong Kong. The series is called 《女人多自在3》(literal translation: "More Comfortable Women 3") and feature independent stories about the common day stories about women and the struggles they face.

In the series, Shirley played a blind author. As a result of her performance, Shirley won the "Best Acting Merit Award" at the 42nd Chicago International TV Festival.

Over the last 5 years, Shirley has been the only Asian to win this outstanding award. Shirley has become the pride of Hong Kong.

Shirley's character was based on a real life story about a blind author. The hardest aspect in playing the role was to play the character from her school years into older adult maturity. The director, Tom, applauded Shirley's acting in the role and said that he chose the right actress.

This is not the first time that Shirley has played a character with a disability. In "Always Ready," she was wheelchair-bound and in "Thousand Lies Various Schemes," Shirley will play a mute. As a result, it helped Shirley in her role in "More Comfortable Women 3," helping Shirley to achieve exciting results!

Shirley said that she was excited about her first international award. "This time the judges were all foreigners. They don't understand Chinese, so they based their judgement on the visuals only. I think it is the great atmosphere the series had as well as the ability of the Director to bring out the proper results."

Shirley said that the hardest aspect in playing her character was controlling her eye movements, as the character is supposed to be blind. The Director arranged a chance for Shirley to meet Wong Ming Yan, upon which the story is based. Shirley was very moved by Ming Yan's life and struggles and therefore it helped Shirley a lot in acting out the role.

At the same time, "More Comfortable Women 3" won the Silver award in Best Director category.

Edison Chen 'falls out' with record label, but continues dating its CEO's niece

EDISON Chen is in a pretty delicate situation these days. He has just parted ways with his former record label, Emperor Entertainment Group Music (EEG), and set up his own multimedia production company, Clot Media Division. Edison had reportedly hinted to reporters at unhappiness over EEG's cut of his earnings. It was a brave revelation considering how he is also currently dating Vincy Yeung, the 19-year-old niece of his former boss, EEG CEO Alfred Yeung. But in an e-mail interview with The New Paper, Edison smoothed over the issue. 'There's no problem at all. Everything's fine,' he wrote.

But we all know how bluntly honest Edison can be.

True to his cool nature, he didn't think he was going against the grain by coming clean about his relationship. He told Singtao Daily that he would marry Vincy once he has made his first US$20million ($30.6m). He said: 'I've always been myself, I've never purposely hid or disclosed details of my private life. Anyway, it's very normal to have a girlfriend, isn't it?'

Of course, considering how the 27-year-old has never been short of female attention.

HARASSED BY FANS?

While the actor was filming his first period action drama, The Eight Heroes in China, there were reports that fans camped outside his hotel room. Edison was reportedly so harassed that he had to switch rooms with The Eight Heroes director Wong Jing. But Edison claimed: 'I was never disturbed during my rest time. The hotel handled the situation very well.' He added that the fans were mostly well-behaved, and only asked for autographs or photos with him. 'I try to accede to their requests whenever I can.'

In the TV series, which is currently showing over VV Drama (StarHub Ch 55) on weekdays at 7pm, Edison takes on the role of a young punk who is inducted into a band of patriotic pugilists who fight against a corrupt leader. He took on the role mainly because of his godfather, Anthony Wong. Anthony stars as the highly-skilled leader of the band in the show.

Edison said: 'Anthony is my mentor. He taught me what acting is all about... but of course, another reason is because (his management company) MediaAsia invested in the drama! Ha!' And it was probably just as well that Edison's packed schedule allowed him to appear only in five episodes as he has no gongfu background.

'It's a good thing that my character is not very highly-skilled. And most of the time, I had stand-ins for the action scenes.'

But acting will have to take a back seat for a while, now that he has his own company and is looking forward to releasing a new Mandarin album under his own label. US rap star Kanye West is supposedly producing some songs for the album too.

And Edison couldn't resist one last jibe at his former company. 'Because of contractual problems with my previous label, (my album) has been in storage for a while. But now that I have my own company, I have a lot more flexibillity in terms of time and freedom (to do what I want).'

Tony Leung on Being a Shy Movie Star

It may seem strange at first that Tony Leung Chiu Wai should have been picked as honorary ambassador for the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2007. Despite his fame, Tony Leung emerged as a shy, retiring person in an interview with Cho Sung-kyu, the head of Sponge Entertainment, on behalf of Chosun Ilbo. Excerpts follow.

The movie “Infernal Affairs,” in which you played a leading part, was remade as “The Departed“ by Martin Scorsese and won an Oscar. What do you think were the differences between the original and the remake? What is your impression of Leonardo DiCaprio, who played your role in the remake?

- Before I talk about the differences, I'd like to say I'm a huge fan of Martin Scorsese. I became a fan when I saw “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull.” His directing style is so unique that I can’t assert the differences from “Infernal Affairs.” Briefly, “Infernal Affairs” is emotional while “The Departed” is realistic. It’s too difficult to compare myself with DiCaprio. He’s a good actor. We are just different because we've grown up and learned in different circumstances.

Most of your characters are sensitive and vulnerable men. What about your real character?

- Actually, I’m quiet and shy. I think movie characters are the same as my real personality. Especially when I’m in front of many people, I become really shy. If I get hurt, I just try to forget it. Seriously, I don't know any other way to handle it.

You've made many films with director Wong Kar-Wai. Why do you like working with him?

-It’s great fun. We've known each other for a long time, so that makes it easy for me to work with him. I don't know why other actors or actresses feel uncomfortable filming with him. Maybe it’s because he doesn't use scripts. But because there’s no fixed frame in directing, actors can have more freedom acting. He can turn anything -- whether its music, painting or literature -- into film.

You make fewer foreign movies than other Chinese actors do like Chow Yun Fat or Gong Li.

-I don’t just make movies in Hong Kong. I’ve made movies with directors from other countries including Hou Hsiao Hsien, Tran Ahn Hung and Ang Lee. I don't insist on working with Hong Kong people. If it’s a good movie, I don't care whether it’s made in Hollywood. I recently finished a film with Ang Lee, and he’s now editing it in New York.

What else do you like except movies? Do you have hobbies or enjoy sports?

I love sports. I like playing ping pong. I play every day. I also like snowboarding and skiing. But I haven’t been able to enjoy outdoor sports as much as I used to since I got hurt.

What is the meaning of movies to you?

Movie to me is fun. It’s a short answer, but it really is for me.

Justin answered, “The most I can be is a god brother, I do not have what it takes to be a godfather.”

On the other hand, Juno Mak has been reported to be tyring hard to pursue Gillian Chung. When asked to comment on his rumoured girlfriend’s reports, Alex rejected commenting and only said, “I will not comment.”

Tavia Pictorial inside HIM Magazine

Tavia Yeung Successfully Increases Cup Size

Tavia Yeung Yi filmed a breast enhancement ad yesterday. Ad sponsor, Siu Ding Yat, was also present. Tavia revealed that she was able to complete her breast enhancement program within 75 days. Her cup size has increased from 31A to 33B. Tavia revealed that she hopes to spend another 25 days on the program to reach 34C.

Tavia wore a white bikini layered with a lace cover-up yesterday. It is obvious that Tavia's bust size has increased. She revealed that she had to buy new tops and bras as a result. Since Tavia's bust enhancement, many colleagues at work have praised her new figure. Did Tavia's boyfriend also complement her? Tavia revealed that she did not ask him.

In the past, many of Tavia's colleagues teased her flat figure. When she was filming "Dou Cheung Fung Wan" earlier, her role required her to wear a fake bust. At the time, Tavia felt the need to increase her bust size, but she did not want to get breast implants.

What did the men have to say about Tavia's new figure? Tavia smiled and asked the reporters to question boss Siu Ding Yat. Siu joked pervertedly that since he has never felt them, he wouldn't know.

Earlier there were reports that Siu complained he did not have any beautiful girls as spokesmodels. Siu said that was not his intended meaning. As to whether he is freezing Suki, Siu said that Suki lacked professionalism. Aside from hiding the fact that she was dating, she likes to haggle over details, causing Siu to stop all current work for her. Among the spokesmodels, Siu said that Rain Li Choi Wah was the best.

Bosco Wong saves Tavia Yeung from drowning

Tavia Yeung Yi's character has a 37D figure in "Dou Cheung Fung Wan." Tavia was filming a water scene with Bosco Wong Chung Chak yesterday. In the scene, Tavia wanted to catch the attention of the wealthy Lee Tin Cheung, so she entered a swimming competition. However, Tavia suddenly had leg cramps while in the water, so Bosco's character rescued her.

Tavia had to wear a swimsuit and enter the water with the extra weights on her chest. Tavia is not very good in swimming and she was afraid that the extra weights would send her straight underwater.

Tavia explained. "When I was seven years old, we went to the water park to play. While I was on the water slide, another child from behind pushed me into the water. When I was young, my elder sister always forced me to learn how to swim. So I have always been wary of the water." Since the weather was quite cold yesterday, Tavia was shivering after being in the water.

Although Bosco is a good swimmer, he has been physically tired lately due to the constant day and night filming. So he was afraid that he couldn't handle the [rescue] scene. Although Bosco had been filming opposite the sexy Tavia lately, he said he has grown accustomed to her new image.

Bosco also said that he prefers "modestly built" women. "Tavia is very tomboyish so her new figure is not suitable for her. I also personally dislike big chests; medium size is fine!" (Does Bosco feel fortunate that he is filming opposite the 'well-built' Tavia?) "No. They are also not real!"

Standing nearby, Tavia ignored Bosco's comment and said, "I feel proud of my figure!"

Tavia's Sexy Summer Slimming Ads

To mark the summer and following in the footsteps of other slimming spokesmodels, Tavia Yeung and Amanda S to become the next generation of sexy slimming models.

Popular model Amanda S made a name for herself sporting beautiful mixed-race looks and handing out kisses on TVB's "Beautiful Cooking", successfully winning the affections of the show's hosts and also Jordan Chan and even guest chef Master Chow. As for Tavia, she has shaken off her earlier image of being a 'Maggie Cheung Ho Yee lookalike' and has forged a name for herself over time recently being voted by netizens as the top female lead at TVB.

Both ladies have been selected to be spokesmodels for slimming companies this season, with Amanda shooting her ad in a swimsuit look and see through top and hot pants, representing Elyze and wearing six inch heels, posing on a six foot high staircase.

Tavia has been signed by slimming company Yankee Spa and has lost 15 inches in total from all over her body. She has undertaken seven different images in her shoot, including a spring look and swimwear in a process that took twelve hours in total. Cleansing her 'girl next door' image, Tavia was even splashed with water for a wet look and showed off her beautiful feminine curves, of which she is very proud. She says she loves her wet look: "Although it was hard work being sprayed, but it was worth it and even Bosco Wong and Moses Chan have complimented me. My confidence has grown now because I used to be criticised more than complimented. (You are not as reserved as before?) The most important thing is that it looks healthy, I don't mind it being healthily sexy." She also invites any potential boyfriends to come forward to date her!

Charlene Gains 6 Pounds While Filming in Shanghai

Charlene Choi and Steven Cheung yesterday attended a promotional event for their movie ‘Super Fans’ at a bowling centre, where they competed with their fans. This resulted in Charlene, who has never learnt how to bowl, to lose and only getting 25 points. The artists disclosed that she has always wanted to learn to how to bowl and that has also hoped that Andy Lau could teach her. But due to their busy schedules, they have not had time to meet up and bowl and so, Andy had to teach her through phone.

Charlene has been busy filming her new movie ‘Slam Dunk’ with Jay Chou. She disclosed that filming in Shanghai has not been as tough as filming in Hong Kong because fans have been bringing her lots of food and so, she has been spending her time eating which has caused her to gain 6 pounds. Charlene hopes that one day she is able to wait for her idol, Amei Chang, outside their hotel because they live in the same hotel. Regarding her company investing a lot of money on a new movie for Vicki Zhao, Charlene expressed that her company has always invested in large movie projects and that she believes that as long as she does her job, her company will invest in movies for her.

Gigi Lai Reveals the Truth Behind “Illegitimate Daughter” Rumours

There have been rumors flying around that Gigi Lai has an illegitimate daughter aged 20 from her past relationship with ex-boyfriend Wong Yuk Long. Yesterday, Gigi and her “illegitimate daughter” appeared in an interview together to publicly clarify that the rumors are false.

At the interview yesterday, Gigi brought along the girl who was alleged to be her daughter. According to rumors, she had the daughter when she was only 16 years old. Because this news is so shocking, Gigi has to publicly clarify these rumors and let the truth be told. The young girl’s name is Kathy Yuen, she plays the younger version of Gigi in TVB series “Life Art”. Gigi admits that there is a striking resemblance between Kathy and herself, she suggests that maybe next time in a series they can play sisters. As for those rumors, Gigi joked: “I wish I do have a 20 year-old daughter, then she can do my job for me and I can retire. Kathy is a singer signed under EEG, if she becomes as big as Joey Yung, don’t forget to thank me!” Kathy says that ever since she appeared on the show “Beautiful Cooking”, she has been nicknamed “Young Gigi”.

There is another rumor that Gigi is currently dating a man known as “The Father of Night Clubs”. Gigi says that he is only a family friend, they have known each other for over ten years, even her parents and brother knows him. Why is he called “The Father of Night Clubs”? Gigi says: “He used to own many night clubs, however, he went bankrupt afterwards. But you can’t look down on someone because they are bankrupt, he is still good person.” Asked why Gigi always dates men who are much older than her, she answers it’s only a coincidence, as long as she likes him she doesn’t mind even if he is younger than her.

Face to Fate

A doctor (Raymond Lam) has a sickness that runs in the family. Even if the person is very youthful, when he reached a certain age, he will suddenly come up with a head of white hair. This sickness causes the person to age quicker than they actually are. This doctor has a real attitude and is a complete womanizer, and he goes by the name Lai Yeuk Yi. Lai Yeuk Yi meets Lee Boh Yi and company one day after they bribe him to heal an old man.

A fortune teller (Frankie Lam - I guess that's what you would call him...) is an average man who lives in peace. He is very sincere and likes to help people. Lee Boh Yi is his name, and he normally doesn't like getting involved in the pugilistic world. However, a certain chain of events lead him to help the Fei Yu Clan find the many masters of Kung Fu to fight in a tournament to settle things between the "light" and the "dark".

Yip Mong Sik (Tavia Yeung) is the student of the very respected Sum Sing Lam (John Chiang), who is the leader of this Fei Yu Clan. She is very naive and hot-headed, but learns to calm herself down. She and Lee Boh Yi become acquainted as she is involved with finding the masters as well. Mong Sik is best friends with her master's daughter, Sum Gong Hong (Nancy Wu). Gong Hong is very naive as well, and is very desperate to prove to her father that she is capable of fighting and making decisions on her own. However, she is very rash and only gets herself in more trouble. Gong Hong also dislikes her step-mother (Anne Heung) very much.

Yin Yeh Loi (Selena Li) is the average woman who runs a hotel business. She is widowed and is raising the child of her deceased husband, whom she treats as her own. She is very kind-hearted but has a horrible past. She desperately tries to push people away, fearing that they will find out about that past. Yeh Loi meets Lee Boh Yi when they find refuge in her hotel while searching for the Kung Fu masters.

Fu Man Fei (Derek Kwok) is known as the world's famous assassin. However, he changes his ways when he meets Gong Hong and falls in love with her. He gives up his violent past to be with her, and Gong Hong sacrifices her home to be with him as well. He and Lee Boh Yi knew each other when they were children, but after a series of events, they lost touch. Fu Man Fei originally was supposed to kill Lee Boh Yi, but after Boh Yi helped him, he sided with the fortune teller.

Lee Boh Yi, Yip Mong Sik, Lai Yeuk Yi, and Yin Yeh Loi go through many hardships on their journey. Yip Mong Sik finds out that her biological father is actually the leader of the dark clan. Lai Yeuk Yi's family disease finally catches up to him after his older brother dies. Yeuk Yi joins the dark clan after Yeh Loi is fatally wounded trying to save her friends. Also, Sum Sing Lam is betraying his very own clan to help the dark clan. Mong Sik tries to help Lee Boh Yi but finds it difficult now that they are supposed to be enemies. However, she cannot deny her feelings for him and neither can he.

Yeuk Yi joins the dark clan only to save Yeh Loi. But she feels he is changing by doing this and would rather have died than to see him like this. He claims he did it all for her, but she still cannot find it in her heart to forgive him. Yeh Loi loves Yeuk Yi very much, but she finds out that he damaged Lee Boh Yi in the grand tournament. She cannot believe that he had lost so much of his dignity and hurt his best friend.

After all this, is "happily ever after" possible? And how will Lee Boh Yi and Mong Sik deal with their feelings, and will Yeh Loi forgive Yeuk Yi for what he's done? Who will triumph: light, or dark?

I liked it a lot, actually. I didn't think that Tavia Yeung and Frankie Lam would have such great chemistry! I've heard many complaints about this series though. Everyone was saying, "Why did Selena Li get a bigger role than Anne Heung?" or "Why did Frankie and Tavia end up together?!" I think that is immature and very hypocritcal. Yes, Anne Heung is a very talented actress, but if you see the same characters over and over again in different series, you would get bored, no? I personally think Selena did a good job in Face to Fate.

Frankie Lam as Lee Boh Yi
Excellent. Excellent I say! Frankie is so good at playing these kinds of roles. I like his seriousness yet he knows when to be laid back. He says he doesn't like getting involved, but his kind heart decides against him and draws him in. He didn't mind when he found out that Mong Sik was the dark clan's leader's daughter. He announced to her that he loved her because she was simply her, and that was enough. Frankie did such a great job and he never ceases to amaze me. Oh, yes, and his voice goes really well with Tavia's for the ending theme song. Overall performance - 4.5 out of 5.

Tavia Yeung as Yip Mong Sik
I'm trying not to be hypocritical because Tavia is one of my favourite actresses, but she did a pretty good job. I liked her better in Pillow Case of Mystery though. Her chemistry with Frankie Lam was great! And I thought that the naive, childish girl character seemed perfect for her. Not that I'm saying she's like that...but it fits her appearance. Her character was able to break down Boh Yi's little wall that he had built around himself. She wanted him to trust her more and tell her what he was thinking. And he did, which was really good. I think her singing voice needs a little bit more improvement, but it was good just the same. Overall performance - 4 out of 5

Raymond Lam as Lai Yeuk Yi
Raymond Lam is very good-looking, has a nice singing voice, and is a great actor. He sings the beginning theme song which is quite catchy. At first, I didn't like the song so I'd always skip it. But then one time, my mom forced me to listen to the whole thing and I found it wasn't too bad. I actually started to like it. When I found out that he was playing the playboy, immature type of character, I said, "Raymond Lam? No way!" But he did such a great job, I didn't expect that from him at all. I remembered his polite and quiet character in Eternal Happiness, but then I remembered his character from Twin of Brothers, which was almost like his character in this series. Let's just say that I'll never grow tired of him, haha. Overall performance - 4.5 out of 5

Selena Li as Yin Yeh Loi
Despite the many complaints that she wasn't as pretty as Anne Heung or Tavia Yeung, I thought that she was very photogenic. However, sometimes I thought her voice got kind of annoying. When she cried, it didn't seem very genuine to me. But I liked the fact that she got quite a large role rather than her minor characters like in Life Made Simple and many other series. I like Selena, and hopefully I see her more in the future. Overall performance - 3.5 out of 5

Favourite Scene

I can't exactly remember which part it was, but I believe it was when Raymond has just helped Selena find her son and they were walking in the forest. He told her that he wanted her to repay him. When she asked how, he said that he wouldn't give her a hard time. He leaned forward a bit and closed his eyes. She smile and planted a kiss on his cheek. "That's it?" He asked her, and she reminded him that he himself has said that he wouldn't pressure her. "Well, a hug isn't so much to ask for is it?" He asked her again as he held open his arms. Selena smiled and did the same, before walking towards him and they enveloped each other in a warm embrace. How cute!

Last Words

This was a great series and I was very impressed. Although, if you don't like it when they talk too much, then I suggest you don't watch it. My mom got really frustrated because there was hardly any action, "There's too much talking!" She said. Well, if you are one of the people who like the Raymond/Tavia pairing, this series isn't right for you. For those who like to see new characters and new pairings, go for it!

The Mark of Triumph

The Mark of Triumph is a TVB drama that came out in 1992 hence the translated Chinese title of 92' Wu Yen. The drama starred Nadia Chen and Ekin Cheng as well as a cast of other TVB actors and actresses. Seeing that I'm not sure of their names, I won't mention their names.

This drama is Nadia's second contemporary roles in TVB. The Mark of Triumph also starred a young Ekin Cheng, continuing a trend after the successful pairing of them in earlier works such as Beside the Seaside Beside the Sea and The Zu Mountain Saga. What makes this drama worth mentioning; this is TVB's earlier attempt for a fictional satire and adaptation at the name of Wu Yen.

Historically, the name of Wu Yen is known by the Chinese to be a woman that is extremely ugly, but with a good heart. There is a story behind this name that I could say, but it would be off topic from my review of the drama that has the name of 92' Wu Yen. For a perspective of Wu Yen's real story, there is a movie adaptation with Sammi Cheng, Anita Mui and Cecelia Cheung.

Nadia in this drama played a character named, [translated from Cantonese] Li Tien Ai. Her face has a green birthmark on the left side of her face; everyone around her regards this as being a very ugly characteristic in spite of the kindness and steadfastness of her personality.

Ekin plays a painter construction worker known as Ah Kit. On one occasion when it was raining, Ah Kit sees Ai with her face covered on the left side, showing her unmarked side. Ah Kit sees the pretty face of Ai and is attracted, however, they didn't meet as Ai's life takes a turn for the worst. Through several depressing events for Ai, in the form of her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend and with everyone just hating her for her ugly face, Ai finally ends up jumping off a building.

At the moment of her suicide attempt, however, she by mistake, drags Ah Kit right off the building with her. Ai was knocked unconscious as her face landed on a broken glass bottle. Ah Kit sends her to the hospital. To make a long story short, Ah Kit meets up with a renowned plastic surgeon that fixes Ai's face. She adapts a complete new identity; wanting everyone who knew the old her to believe that she was dead.

Later in the story, Ai becomes a famous star, of how she became a star, I wouldn't say; let's just leave it for the viewer to know how she became well known. There are a few trials for Ai and Ah Kit's relationship in the middle of her being famous became a romantic one, but the stress of Ai's stardom came down hard. Their relationship broke off and Ai starts to go out with her manager. She also bumps back into with her family, who she starts to support.

However, with some misunderstandings, scandals breaks out as the manager in time turns to sue Ai for lying about not having plastic surgery. Ai's ex-best friend is connected with this whole scandal. But all's well ends well, Ai's wins the court case as the same surgeon helps her in lying about her surgery.

There were problems between Ai and Ah Kit as a triangular relationship was formed with their mutual friend, another girl named Ah Moon who was in love with Ah Kit. Ah Kit and Ah Moon were about to get married when Ai decides to leave Hong Kong going to America. There was a big misunderstanding because at that same instant; Ah Moon leaves Ah Kit thinking that she could push Ah Kit back to Ai when she knew that Ah Kit was still in love with Ai.

Yet, the only result of this was Ah Kit being alone, because Ai leaves and the girl leaves as well. The time is fast forwarded to three years later, Ai is a world famous movie star, and the ex-manager is still around, doing the same job of finding new stars. Ai's family owns a teashop as Ai's younger sister marries Ai's ex-boyfriend. Ah Moon comes back with her husband and two twin babies and Ah Kit owns a bar. The ending is suppose to be a good one as Ah Kit joins Ai in going to mainland China to act in a film.

What was good about this series was to see how Nadia's character developed like in a Cinderella story from rags to riches. Her natural beauty is very well emphasized by this series as what the title of The Mark of Triumph would really be related with. Then there were also the cute romantic scene with Ekin and the scene where with work; she becomes famous in the form of a flying angel.

What I didn't like about this series was the rushed plot line. What I didn't understand was how the manager's character could turn that bad in a few episodes. There were very choppy explanations on why he turned on Nadia after helping her to stardom and then wanting to topple her. Also, Nadia's younger sister, who wasn't a very nice person, betrays Nadia in the climax of the court case. Then as Nadia's character attempts suicide a second time by the usage of suffocation by gas, the younger sister suddenly comes back in as being very concerned for her sister who she betrayed earlier.

I would give this series on a scale of 1 to 5 a rating of 3.5. This drama may be for someone that would like to see an early work of Nadia other then Song Bird.
